The Caterham Seven 1.8 litre, Minister-tuned K-Series R500 was until recently the ultimate Seven to have, culminating in the R500 Evolution. It was named due to its 230 horses on tap, with a kerb weight of only 450kg, giving it an incredible 500hp/tonne power to weight ratio. The R500 was fitted with Tillet Racing Seats. These carbon-kevlar units helped contribute to the R500’s diet plan.

Tillet Racing Seats was established by Steve Tillet, who started karting in 1978 and his father Alec who was a vintage car upholsterer helped modify his seat to reduce the driver’s rear end slipping! Soon after they began to produce fibreglass shells and Tillet Seats were born. The accurate, high quality Tillet seats attracted Caterham, and it appears that they produce other parts for the Seven as well. Tillet also has non-Caterham carbon-fibre car seats named the B1, B2 & B3.

All Tillett Light Weight Carbon seats containing DuPontKEVLAR® (brand fiber) are built to be on the limit of weight and strength but the materials are never compromised to save cost. Using a carbon-aramid fabric is useless if the resin and curing processes do not compliment the expensive fibres, most of the seat strength can be lost and fracturing will occur.
