CATERHAM SEVENS: FROM CONCEPTION TO CSR

If there was one Seven-related book you could afford to buy this year, what would it be? Chris Rees has written a book that should be in the collection of every Seven enthusiast.

This hardcover book from Chris Rees isn’t cheap, but it sure is filled with lots of content. Rees gives a good overview of the now familiar (to Seven fanatics at least!) story of how the Seven was developed by Colin Chapman and how Graham Nearn took over production and brought the Caterham Seven into the scene, bringing Seven development further, probably more than Chapman could have ever imagined.

Little known facts, photographs and stories about in this book. It will walk you through the earliest days right up to the launch of the Caterham CSR.

There are details on the evolution of the Lotus Seven, right from Colin Chapman’s prototype specials, to the Lotus Mark 6, to the Seven during Lotus and Caterham years. There are also stories on the move from Caterham to Dartford.

Chapter 9 is very interesting as it devotes 10 pages to the development of the Caterham 21 and about 2 pages to the canned ‘Q26‘ project by racing car constructor Reynard, a mid engine carbon fibre roadster commissioned in 2000. This story is actually the subject of a BBC documentary which you can find on the net.

Published by MRP Publishing Ltd., England and distributed in North America by Motorbooks International.
