HOMEBUILT LOTUS SEVEN REPLICA
Ben Corley | May 15, 2007
Canadian Lotus Seven fanatic Rod (who was 23 years old at the time) decided to build his own Seven in 2003. His father had owned one and Rod was a diehard Lotus Seven fan. After years of collecting used pieces, the decision to build his own Seven was made.
After a couple of years collecting bits and pieces, and following the sale of an Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprite, Rod started the construction. He purchased all his materials from Rustan Metals, but ran into several problems with dimensions but after a year of working on weekends and weeknights, he had a completed frame.
Body construction took about six months, getting the aluminium fitted. Fibreglass body parts took an additional two months. After a total of about 2 years, the car was completed and on the road.
