LUMENITION ROLLER BARREL THROTTLE BODIES
Ben Corley | May 20, 2007
Conventional throttle bodies have a butterfly to control air/fuel flow into an engine. Caterham R500s and some high performance Sevens are fitted with ‘Roller Barrel‘ type throttle bodies which allow for uninterrupted airflow at full throttle.
I couldn’t find pictures of the Caterham part so pictured here is an aftermarket Lumenition roller barrel throttle barrel. As you can see from the picture, a roller barrel throttle body has a barrel with a hole machined through, and is fitted in a body with a corresponding hole.
As the throttle is opened, the barrel moves, gradually increased the ‘hole’ allowing airflow in, and finally at full throttle, the opening has completely no restriction to airflow. There is no butterfly to restrict airflow.
Here’s a summary of what Lumenition has to offer:
- Uninterrupted air flow during full throttle opening
- Precision engineered and billet aluminium machined for maximum air flow and smooth delivery on throttle opening.
- Roller bearing barrels for smooth and reliable operation.
- Machined from solid billet aluminium and anodised in red for corrosion protection.
- Fits in pairs on any Weber DCOE carb manifold
- Available in 40mm and 45mm
