The majestic Belgian Grand Prix circuit of Spa-Francorchamps is the venue next week (3/4 August) for a three-race feast of evo Caterham Eurocup action, with CSR 260 pairing Clive Richards / Richard Hay and Superlight supremo Graham Fennymore bidding to extend their respective series leads.

With seven race wins - at Hockenheim, Val de Vienne and Donington - under their belts already, Richard Hay and Clive Richards and their HayFisher-backed Colards CSR enjoy a 47-point lead over their closest challenger, Oliver Bull, as the Eurocup enters the second half of its 18-race season.

But Bull, whose Acre Jean-backed and Hyperion Motorsport-prepared machine has two wins under its belt, is not beaten yet: “We are only half way through the season and the championship is still an outside possibility,” said the former Academy and Euro Roadsport Champion. “I have usually been quite quick at Spa, so am really looking forward to fighting for wins. I’m hoping for some improved reliability; the whole team is focused on getting the best out of the Acre Jean car and pushing for wins.” Bull will be paired with sports car specialist Phil Glew.

Italy’s Michele Tommasi and Scotland’s Malcolm Johnstone will continue at Spa their battle over championship third place, Tommasi with the upper hand having visited the podium six times already. Experienced Spa racer Sarah Reader will be joined in the TFL Racing CSR for the first time by Lee Cunningham, and meanwhile UK Superlight front runner Nick Payne is teaming up with German kart champion Christian Wangard.

Former Caterham Germany Champion Kurt Hoffmann is teamed once more with the very rapid Joachim Westermann and they will be bidding to repeat the form which brought them third place at Hockenheim in April. A large contingent of French CSRs will be in action also, headed by the cars of Loïc Martinez and Olivier Guerin.

In the Superlight division Fennymore will face again the only driver to have beaten him in Europe this season, Mike Cantillon. Cantillon will lead a three-car Team Parker Racing attack alongside John Barbour and 2005 Eurocup Champion Jamie Constable. Avon Tyres Caterham Superlight Challenge points leader Glen Denny will be making his Eurocup debut for the Colards team.

Fennymore and his Ambitions/Hyperion Superlight have a 43-point lead in the Eurocup Sprint overall standings. In the Eurocup Endurance division a win at Spa would net Fennymore the championship crown with two races in hand.
