ROADSPORT BATTLE AT CASTLE COMBE

Ben Corley | June 15, 2007

Motorsport News Caterham Roadsport Challenge is set to see the return of some old faces next Sunday (24 June) when the championship heads for Castle Combe. It’s the first visit to the Wiltshire venue by the Roadsport brigade since 2004.

Mike Blackadder is among those expected on the grid. Mike, who won the Roadsport B Championship title in ‘04 with four race wins and a host of podium finishes - (two of them at Castle Combe) - and Tony Poole, a Roadsport race winner in 2005 who has since graduated to Superlights.

Mike Blackadder and Tony Poole will join a host of drivers out to prevent Jeremy Ellis from extending his Roadsport points lead further. The 39-year-old has won five of his six outings so far, defeated only by his fellow Kent racer Toby Dicker, who triumphed earlier this month at the Seven Golden Jubilee meeting at Donington.

Mike Richards is the season’s other Roadsport race winner; he took the laurels at Snetterton and at Donington in the races not contested by Jeremy Ellis. Essex-based Mike Richards, the 2003 Caterham Academy Champion, holds third in the championship standings.

In Roadsport B, Hampshire’s Gareth Thomas is the man in form: he’s won four races on the trot and takes with him to Wiltshire a 23-point series lead over Leeds driver Chris Legg. David Tansley of Cricklade, who won at Snetterton in April, will be looking to get back on to the podium’s top step on his home circuit.
