DUNLOP ALLOY WHEELS
Ben Corley | May 30, 2007
Some motorheads say Dunlop Alloys are to Lotus Sevens what Mugen M7s are to Honda Civics.
Dunlop Alloys seen here on Kiyoshi Hamai’s restored Lotus 7 (Golden Gate Lotus Club)
Much sought after, these rather uncommon wheels are variously referred to as Dunlop Alloys, Dunlop Europa Specials, Lotus Alloys, etc. However, I believe these were actually called “Dunlop Formula D Style A” wheels and produced in 13×5.5J (Please correct me if I’m wrong).
Sadly they are no longer in production but in my humble opinion it’s about time someone stepped up and started producing replicas, including wider variants to suit more current Caterham Sevens. After all, you can even specify a ‘Prisoner‘ or ‘Gulf‘ paint scheme on a Caterham these days!
These attractive wheels are a great match for Series 3 Sevens and were apparently officially offered as options. Dunlop Alloys are often mistaken for “BRAND LOTUS” wheels but that’s another story! Seven Builder Rod from Canada (Check out his homebuilt Seven Replica) tells me “The Seven S4’s typically had the Brand Lotus wheels, while the Seven S3’s had the Dunlops.”
